Understanding Our Safety Standards

We adhere to FDA guidelines for microbiological safety, ensuring all products are free from harmful bacteria, yeast, and mold. For example, as specified in the provided Certificates of Analysis (COAs), acceptable limits include:

Total Aerobic Plate Count: Less than 1,000 cfu/g, with results frequently well below this threshold.

Yeast and Mold: Less than 100 cfu/g, ensuring products are safe and free from spoilage..

E. coli: Must be absent in all samples.

These stringent microbial limits demonstrate our commitment to ensuring products are not only effective but also safe for consumption.

Most of our products are tested to meet the limits set by California's Proposition 65 (Prop 65) for heavy metal contaminants. However, Prop 65 is not the sole standard we follow. Other internationally recognized safety guidelines, such as FDA and EPA standards, may also apply, depending on the product and its market. :

Arsenic: Strict limits are applied to prevent toxic exposure.

Cadmium: Often undetectable in our products, with limits aligning with Prop 65 or other regulatory standards.

Mercury: Maintained at exceptionally low levels to prevent contamination.

Lead: Closely monitored to stay within permissible limits.

Prop 65 and Its Importance

California’s Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a regulation designed to protect consumers from exposure to harmful chemicals, including heavy metals like lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. These chemicals are identified as potentially causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Prop 65 requires manufacturers to disclose the presence of listed chemicals if they exceed extremely low threshold levels, which are often stricter than those set by federal agencies like the FDA.

What Does a Prop 65 Warning Mean?

A Prop 65 warning does not necessarily indicate that a product is unsafe. Instead, it informs consumers that the product contains a chemical listed under Prop 65 above its defined threshold. These limits are much lower than those set by other regulatory agencies, meaning a product with a Prop 65 warning can still be safe for consumption under most safety standards.

Our products are not contaminated but may exceed the very low Prop 65 limits due to naturally occurring heavy metals in the environment. This can happen even with the most carefully sourced ingredients. While our products comply with broader regulatory standards, including those from the FDA and EPA, we strive to meet Prop 65 requirements whenever possible. Regardless, we comply with the regulations set forth in the language of the law, so that is why you may notice a Proposition 65 warning as applicable when purchasing a product from Vinatura.
